The Chief Executive, John Lee, delivered his 2023 policy address last October. It covered many areas of society that he sought to improve, enhance, or change. In this new series, with the help of several senior government officials, Dr. Eugene Chan will take stock of the visible results so far, while getting some of the personal views and aspirations of his guests.
This week, Eugene's guest is the Secretary for the Civil Service, Ingrid Yeung.

Welcome to Thursday’s Brew. It’s raining, by the way, but have no fear, Mark Rawson will be with you right after the news to introduce some more awesome Brewed in HK tracks. As always, everything you hear in the first half hour will be created by more of Hong Kong’s wonderful musicians. Dr. David Gething, our vet, will be with you at 12:40. Today, on the back of a listener question, he wants to talk about some of the herbal, and maybe “Chinese medications” that are commonly prescribed for our pets, and really seem to work. Then at 1:25, we welcome back the creative powerhouse behind the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Leanne Nicholls. She has an incredible project to tell you about today, so stay tuned for The Shark Symphony.
Every weekday afternoon from 12 until 2... Only on Radio 3
On Thursday's Backchat, we're talking about how to make the best use of public funds at a time when all government departments are being asked to tighten their belts.
Legislators have been meeting all week in a Special Finance Committee session to quiz officials on their spending plans for the coming year amid projections of another budget deficit of $48 billion.
Some have raised questions about the cost of everything from the millions of dollars still being spent every month on preserving vacant COVID quarantine facilities to former Chief Executive's Carrie Lam's office.
Land matters are also high on the agenda, with the government preparing to submit its funding application for the first stage of the San Tin Technopole project that is one of the centrepiece’s of the Northern Metropolis project.
So how can the government best implement its plan to cut spending by 1% this year? And are there ways public funds can be better targetted?
